Looks like they are going to get ”happier” then with a surge of more troops headed there. Problem is the US left Afghanistan alone, even helped them during Sovier invasion. Then Taliban allowed Bin Laden and Al-Qaida to use their country as their headquarters which resulted in 1000’s of innocents being killed in US and elsewhere. Can’t allow that to happen again. Troops will be there until Bin Laden is eliminated and Taliban agree to not harbor terrorists. Looks like Pakistan is taking over as terrorist training ground. Used to be such a nice and friendly place to visit. Now it is scary, even for the people who live there.

The indomitable nature of the Afghans is legendary, I think too much money and infrastructure was diverted away from Afghanistan to start Iraq war.

If only Bush administration hadnt gone to Iraq all the money could be spent on building Afganistan infrastructure and maybe things would have been more propitious; in that the Afghan local army and police and institutions would have been financed and work opportunities for people would flourish more and then a quick withdrawal could have ensued.

But some of the money gets wasted or some dissapears from corruption. If war was conducted well and money spent right early on, Afghan people would be better prepared.

As history shows if Afghanistan people reject and grow tired of foreign influence then they will fight the foreigners away, but i just feel hopefully they can try to have a democracy or evolve a democracy that works.

I think people are forgetting that it has nothing to do with foreign soldiers ”occupying” Afghanistan...

if you wish Afghanistan to be controlled by the Taliban once again, and all that entails - no women’s rights, etc, then by all means we should pull every last soldier out of there. What is happening in Pakistan right now just proves it has nothing to do with foreign occupation and everything to do with power, control and domination by the Taliban.

Perhaps as men you have no problem with women being severely subjugated, as they were and still are to a degree in Afghanistan, but I don’t wish that even on an animal. And I am not a feminist, I just believe women deserve to be treated better than animals.
